Becker Schmitz’s painting has developed from the search for new creative solutions in the constant experimental use of pictorial means and materials. From the figurative (mostly landscape) painting ran the way to abstraction. The authenticity of expression, the balance between emotion and calculation, and the dialogue between the poles of reality and fiction were already essential traits of earlier phases of the artist’s work. These characteristics can also be transferred to his new, abstract series of works. Special features of the new works – they are created on synthetic canvases (or on glass plates) and painted on both sides, i.e. on the front as well as on the back.
